In patients who develop a macular hole, a black spot forms in the visual center and affects vision greatly. Peripheral vision is not affected because other retinal areas are normal.<\/p>\n<p>The region where the visual function is strongest is the macula region and its central yellow spot (fovea). The epiretinal membrane is a membrane that forms just above the macula.<\/p>\n<p>This formed membrane causes shrinkage in the macula area underneath and causes wrinkles in the macula, which normally has a smooth surface.
